Sweden’s second airport is refreshingly simple: one building, one fork at passport control, one decision at the curb. Here is the walk from the aircraft door to your ride into Gothenburg, and the two things other guides still get wrong.
When you need this
You are landing at Landvetter and want to know what the next half hour looks like. You are choosing between the coach and a taxi for the 25 km into Gothenburg, or heading straight on to Borås or Stockholm. You are flying in from outside Schengen — perhaps on the new Abu Dhabi route from December — and wondering what the border check involves. Or you are collecting someone and looking for the right car park.
One terminal, one fork
Göteborg Landvetter handled 5,435,850 passengers in 2025, making it Sweden’s second-largest airport, with one runway and routes to 77 international destinations. It sits by road 40, 25 km east of Gothenburg and 40 km from Borås.
Unlike Arlanda, it is one terminal building. Check-in, security, gates, passport control, baggage reclaim and customs are all under one roof, and the arrivals exits lead straight to bus, taxi and car rental. There are no terminal numbers to decode and no inter-terminal train.
What happens after the gate depends on a single question: is this your first entry into the Schengen area?

Passport control and EES
Arriving from outside Schengen, EU, EEA and Swiss citizens follow the signs marked EU passport. Everyone else uses the other lanes, where Swedish border police check documents at a staffed booth.
There are no e-gates at Landvetter. Swedavia’s own passport page mentions none. A 2025 Swedish government inquiry recommends that the Police Authority prepare and introduce automated border control at Arlanda, Gothenburg and Malmö — which is another way of saying it is not there yet. Budget for a queue.
Non-EU nationals are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), which started on 12 October 2025: you show your passport and any visa, a live photo is taken and you give fingerprints. Children under 12 are registered but not fingerprinted. It is free, and refusing the photo or fingerprints means being refused entry. You can pre-register in the official Travel to Europe app, which the Swedish police offer for Landvetter arrivals; it is voluntary and does not replace the booth.

Worth knowing: from 17 December 2026 Etihad Airways flies Abu Dhabi–Gothenburg four times a week — Landvetter’s first direct link to the United Arab Emirates, and a new regular non-Schengen arrival where EES enrolment happens here.
Baggage and customs
Take your bags from the belt shown on the screens. If one is missing, report it to your airline’s baggage service before you leave the hall. The airline is legally responsible; Swedavia has no access to airline baggage data and cannot retrieve it for you.
Then choose a customs channel. Most guides describe two. Swedish Customs runs three:

From outside the EU you may bring other goods worth up to SEK 5,000 duty-free on an air arrival, plus separate alcohol and tobacco allowances. Meat, milk and egg products from outside the EU are confiscated. Since 1 April 2026 the EUR 10,000 cash declaration duty applies to arrivals from other EU countries too. Warning: Choosing green or blue while over the allowances is smuggling — the goods are seized and the offence carries fines or prison. The red channel costs you minutes.
Flying in with a dog from outside the EU? Landvetter is one of only two Swedish airports where it may enter directly, and any pet must stay in its crate until it has cleared customs. See bringing a dog to Sweden.
Leaving Landvetter: coach, bus, taxi or car
This is the decision the curb forces, and it helps to know the stop numbers before you walk out.

Buy the coach ticket before you board. Swedavia’s own advice is to buy online or in the operator’s app, “as onboard purchases are not always possible”. The airport wifi is free, so you can do it in the arrivals hall.
Taxis: only from the rank. Taxi pricing in Sweden is free — there is no fare set by law. The protection at Landvetter is a contract: Swedavia-approved companies accept a maximum fare within a marked zone, and the meter applies beyond it. Every taxi must show a jämförpris (comparison price) on a yellow sticker. Confirm the price before the doors close.
Warning: Never accept a ride from a driver who approaches you inside the arrivals hall. Only drivers with a pre-booked passenger may meet people there; anyone touting has no airport contract, and you risk what Swedavia calls “an unreasonably high price”. Landing late? Swedavia recommends pre-booking, because taxis can run short.

There is no train
Plenty of pages say a rail link to Landvetter will be open “by 2026”. It is not, and it will not be this decade.
A station under the airport is part of Trafikverket’s new Göteborg–Borås line. The government approved the corridor on 11 June 2026. Trafikverket plans to start building between 2029 and 2031, and expects construction to take about ten years. The existing railway to Borås does not pass the airport. In 2026 you leave Landvetter by road.
Your first hour
Money. You need none. A contactless card or phone covers the coach app, the coffee and the taxi. Even the luggage lockers are paid through your phone. The case against airport cash is in cash in Sweden.
Phone. Airport wifi is free for three hours or 100 MB: one hour on connecting, two more once you confirm your email. An eSIM loaded before departure removes the errand — see SIM cards and eSIMs for Sweden.
Luggage. Lockers in several sizes stand inside the terminal, opposite the Scandic hotel entrance. Scan the QR code to rent one and pay by phone.
Collecting someone. Use short-term car park P10 Pick up & drop off, a one-minute walk from the terminal. Swedavia publishes no landing-to-curb time for Landvetter, so watch the live arrivals board rather than the schedule.
Staying close. Scandic Landvetter is adjacent to the terminal and Landvetter Airport Hotel is about 200 metres away.
Flying out again? Landvetter’s security still wants liquids in one one-litre bag, taken out of your hand baggage. The bag-free lanes you may know from Arlanda’s Terminal 5 are not here. Tax-free receipts are stamped at the information desk.

FAQ
How do I get from Landvetter Airport to Gothenburg city center?
By coach or taxi — there is no train. The Vy Flygbussarna airport coach leaves from bus stop 1 and takes about 20 minutes to the center, via Korsvägen to Nils Ericson Terminalen by Central Station; buy the ticket in the app or online first. FlixBus route 691 also runs into the city. Approved taxis wait at the signed rank.
Is there a train to Landvetter Airport?
No. Landvetter has no railway station in 2026, and older pages promising a rail link “by 2026” are out of date. A station under the airport is part of Trafikverket’s planned Göteborg–Borås line, but the government approved its corridor only in June 2026, construction is planned to start 2029–2031 and should take about ten years.
Do I go through passport control when I land at Landvetter?
Only if you arrived from outside the Schengen area. From inside Schengen — including Swedish domestic flights — there is no border check and you walk straight to baggage reclaim. From London, Istanbul or the Gulf you meet Swedish border police first, and non-EU nationals are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System with a photo and fingerprints.
Are there e-gates at Landvetter passport control?
No. Passports are checked by Swedish border police at staffed booths; Swedavia’s own passport page tells EU citizens to follow the “EU passport” signs and mentions no gates. Automated border control at Göteborg, Arlanda and Malmö is a recommendation in a 2025 government inquiry — a proposal, not something installed. Budget for a queue.
How much is a taxi from Landvetter to Gothenburg?
Taxis from Swedavia’s approved rank have a contractual maximum fare for trips within a marked zone that Swedavia publishes on its taxi page; outside the zone the meter applies. Sweden has no statutory taxi fare, so confirm the price with the driver before you set off and check the yellow comparison-price sticker. Never accept a ride offered inside the arrivals hall.
Is there left luggage at Landvetter Airport?
Yes. Luggage lockers in several sizes stand inside the terminal, opposite the entrance to the Scandic hotel. You rent them through your mobile phone by scanning a QR code on site, and pay the same way. Rates depend on box size and time and are set by the operator, so check them at the lockers.
