Sturup is small and easy to walk through, and it has no train. Getting to Malmö is simple. Lund and Copenhagen take a plan, and the guides that still list a Lund airport coach are six years out of date.

When you need this

You have a flight into Malmö Airport, or you’re weighing one against Copenhagen. Maybe you’ve just landed at Sturup and need to get to Malmö, Lund or Copenhagen. Maybe your flight comes from London or Pristina, outside the Schengen area, or lands late at night. Or you’re picking up a rental car, parking for a trip, or wondering whether Kastrup would have been the better choice.

The airport in 2026: who flies there

Malmö Airport is still widely called Sturup, after the place it stands. It is one of the ten state airports run by Swedavia, in Svedala Municipality, 30 kilometres east of Malmö. It is a small airport: one combined terminal, one runway, and 854,961 passengers in 2025, with 17 international destinations and one domestic. Traffic has more than halved since 2019, which local press ties to fewer SAS Stockholm flights and competition from Kastrup.

AirlineWhat it flies from Malmö in 2026
Wizz AirThe largest network, mostly central and eastern Europe; Pristina from 15 December 2026
RyanairBack since spring 2026: Zagreb, Warsaw Modlin, London Stansted
SASStockholm Arlanda, about seven flights a day
Skåne AviationStockholm Bromma, since 12 April 2026 (a new airline, per business press)
Apollo, TUI, VingSeasonal holiday charters

Routes change every airline season, so check Swedavia’s destination list before you book.

Landing: one terminal, one fork

There is one terminal, so just follow the arrival signs. What happens next depends on where you flew from.

  • From inside Schengen (including a Swedish domestic flight), there is usually no border check. Go straight to baggage reclaim.
  • From outside Schengen (London Stansted, Pristina and similar routes), clear passport control first. EU citizens follow the “EU passport” signs. Non-EU visitors are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System, which is free. There are no automated gates: automated border control at Malmö is only a 2025 government-inquiry proposal. You can pre-register in the official Travel to Europe app for Sturup arrivals. It’s voluntary and doesn’t replace the check. Background: how EES border checks work and customs allowances.

Then the curb. You have four ways out: the airport coach, bus 147, a taxi or a rental car. There’s no train.

To Malmö by airport coach

The Vy Flygbussarna coach runs from the airport to Malmö C, stopping in the city on the way. Third-party timetables list stops such as Södervärn, Triangeln and Studentgatan and put the journey at roughly 40 minutes. The operator’s own site is the authority on times. Swedavia sends coach passengers to the operator’s website for tickets, so download the app before you land. Its last stop, Malmö C, is the hub for Malmö and for trains across Skåne.

Bus 147 to Svedala station

Since 16 August 2026, Skånetrafiken bus 147 has linked the airport with Svedala. Until then the airport had no regional public transport, so guides that say there is none are out of date.

To Lund

There is no airport coach to Lund. Flygbussarna closed its Lund C line in June 2020 and never brought it back. You have three options:

  1. Bus 147 and a train: bus to Svedala, then a train on the Malmö–Lund–Helsingborg line.
  2. Coach and a train: the airport coach to Malmö C, then Öresundståg to Lund C, 10–12 minutes in the current timetable.
  3. Taxi: road 108 runs from the airport toward Lund. Swedish taxi fares are free, so ask for a fixed price first.

Our Lund guide covers the city itself.

To Copenhagen

Neptunbus runs between Malmö Airport and Copenhagen for Wizz Air passengers, three or four departures a day. You must book at least three days ahead. Everyone else takes the coach to Malmö C and then Öresundståg across the bridge. Buy that train ticket before boarding. Driving means paying the Öresund Bridge toll.

Taxis, rental cars and parking

Taxis wait at the rank directly outside the terminal. A pre-booked taxi meets you inside, by the domestic baggage claim. Sweden has free taxi pricing with no ceiling, so ask for a fixed price, and read the yellow jämförpris (comparison price for a standard 10 km, 15-minute trip) before you get in. Taxis in Sweden explains the sticker.

Rental cars: Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Mabi and Sixt are at Sturup. Their offices are by the car parks, not in the terminal. See renting a car in Sweden.

Parking is by area and can be booked ahead. A booking lets you enter up to two hours early and leave up to three hours late. Outside that window you pay the area’s daily rate. You can’t book within two hours of arrival. Instead, register a card at the gate and pay when you leave. Payment takes Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Swish, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Parking customer service is staffed around the clock.

Landing late at night

Late flights narrow the options. Skånetrafiken’s notice puts bus 147’s last weekday departures from the airport around midnight to 1 a.m. Weekend service starts later, with the first airport arrival around 07:25 against 06:25 on weekdays. Check the coach operator’s site for its departures before you land.

After that, take a taxi from the rank, or pre-book one to meet you by the domestic baggage claim. Sturup Airport Hotel is a five-minute walk from the terminal. That helps after a late arrival or before a dawn departure.

Sturup or Kastrup?

For much of Skåne, Copenhagen Airport is the alternative, with the region’s widest route network.

RailNone; bus 147 to SvedalaStation under Terminal 3, about 20 minutes to Malmö C

In short: if your airline flies to Sturup, it’s a quick, simple airport with a bus problem for Lund. If it doesn’t, or you land late, flying into Copenhagen is usually easier. Just keep your passport in your hand luggage for Hyllie.

FAQ

How do I get from Malmö Airport to Malmö city center?

Take the Vy Flygbussarna airport coach, which runs from the airport to Malmö C with stops in the city on the way, roughly 40 minutes in all. Buy the ticket on the operator’s website or app. Alternatives are a taxi from the rank outside the terminal, with free pricing, or Skånetrafiken bus 147 to Svedala station and a train.

Is there a train to Malmö Airport?

No. Malmö Airport has no railway station. Since 16 August 2026 Skånetrafiken bus 147 links the airport with Svedala, where you walk about seven minutes from the Stortorget stop to the station. The bus is timed to trains on the Malmö–Lund–Helsingborg and Ystad–Simrishamn lines, with 15 or 20 minutes to change.

How do I get from Malmö Airport to Lund?

There is no direct coach: Flygbussarna closed its Lund line in 2020. Take bus 147 to Svedala and a train on the Malmö–Lund–Helsingborg line, or the coach to Malmö C and Öresundståg to Lund, 10–12 minutes. A taxi takes road 108; Swedish fares are free, so ask for a fixed price first.

How do I get from Malmö Airport to Copenhagen?

Wizz Air passengers can book Neptunbus, which runs three or four times a day and must be booked at least three days ahead. Otherwise take the coach to Malmö C and Öresundståg across the bridge; buy that ticket before boarding. Driving means paying the Öresund Bridge toll.

Should I fly into Malmö Airport or Copenhagen?

Copenhagen has far more routes, a station 20 minutes from Malmö C and trains through the night, but Sweden checks ID at Hyllie until at least 11 November 2026. Malmö Airport suits you if your airline flies there: one small terminal, no ID check on Schengen arrivals, but no train and a 30 km coach ride.

Which airlines fly to Malmö Airport in 2026?

Wizz Air has the most routes, mainly to central and eastern Europe, adding Pristina from December 2026. Ryanair returned in spring 2026 with Zagreb, Warsaw Modlin and London Stansted. SAS flies to Stockholm Arlanda, and Skåne Aviation to Bromma since April 2026. Charter companies add holiday flights. Check Swedavia’s destination list before booking.

What if I land at Malmö Airport late at night?

Bus 147’s last weekday departures leave around midnight to 1 a.m., and the coach operator publishes its own timetable, so check both before you land. A taxi waits at the rank outside or can be pre-booked to meet you by the domestic baggage claim. Sturup Airport Hotel is a five-minute walk away.
