Bromma is Stockholm’s city airport, about 7 km from the centre. Most of what you’ll read about it online is out of date: BRA’s network, the airport bus and the closure dates. Here is how it stands in October 2026, and how to get from the terminal into town.
When you need this
Your ticket to Visby, Malmö, Växjö or Trollhättan says “Stockholm Bromma”. Or you’ve read that Bromma is closing and wonder whether your flight will still exist. Or you’ve just walked out of arrivals, and the airport bus every guide mentions isn’t there.
It also helps if a cheap ticket just says “Stockholm”. Bromma, Arlanda, Skavsta and Västerås are four separate airports. Turning up at the wrong one costs you the flight.
Is Bromma closing? Where things stand
No closure has been decided. Three things have happened, and they are often run together:
| Date | What happened | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 14 October 2024 | The City of Stockholm, which owns the land, terminated its agreement with the state | The land agreement now ends on 31 December 2038. The city plans housing on the site |
| January 2025 | BRA stopped flying its own network and moved to Arlanda to fly for SAS | Bromma lost most of its traffic |
| 30 September 2026 | The government inquiry reported (SOU 2026:60) | No closure proposed. A formal review point (kontrollstation) in 2033 decides whether Bromma carries on |
The investigator, Anders Flanking, wants to see how scheduled traffic develops first. He also pointed to possible electric aircraft and to defence needs since Sweden joined NATO. The report is a proposal to the government, not a decision. And 2038 is the end date of a land agreement, not a decided closure date.
Don’t rebook because of a headline. Moving a Bromma flight to Arlanda because “Bromma is closing” wastes money. The earliest review point proposed is 2033, and the land agreement runs to the end of 2038.
Who flies from Bromma now
Three small Swedish airlines fly four domestic routes. Swedavia lists no scheduled international destination.
| Destination | Airline | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Visby (Gotland) | Brommaflyg | About 35 minutes; the ferry takes about three hours |
| Malmö | Skåne Aviation | Since 12 April 2026; about 65 minutes |
| Växjö | Västflyg | |
| Trollhättan–Vänersborg | Västflyg |
Swedavia’s own figures show about 25,000 travelers and three destinations in 2025, which tells you how quiet the airport is. If you remember Bromma as the airport for flights all over Sweden, that network now flies from Arlanda. Our guide to domestic flights in Sweden covers it. Timetables change by season, so check the airline before you plan.
Only the quietest, most environmentally friendly aircraft may use Bromma. The terminal is small: check-in, security, baggage claim, ground transport and parking are all a few minutes’ walk apart.
Getting to the city by Tvärbanan
The way into town is Tvärbanan, the cross-town light-rail line, line 31. Walk out of the arrivals hall (ankomsthall) and turn left: the stop, Bromma flygplats, is right there.
- Pay before you board. The stop has no gates and you can’t buy a ticket on board. Tap a contactless bank card or SL card on the post at the stop (blippa, as the signs say), or activate an SL app ticket first. App tickets cannot be tapped on the post.
- Ride line 31 to Alvik. The line runs Bromma flygplats – Bromma Blocks – Norra Ulvsunda – Johannesfred – Alvik – Alviks strand.
- Change at Alvik to the green metro line into the centre. Alvik also has Nockebybanan and local buses.
- Going to Solna or Sundbyberg? Change at Norra Ulvsunda to line 30 instead.
An ordinary SL single covers the whole trip and is valid for 75 minutes. There is no airport supplement. SL’s 2026 tariff has a station passage fee only at Arlanda, and nothing at Bromma. Every SL ticket is valid on Tvärbanan. Our Stockholm public transport guide explains which ticket suits your stay.
SL says Tvärbanan runs from early morning to about 01:00. Trams come every 6–8 minutes in the daytime and every 10–15 in the evening. Those figures cover Tvärbanan as a whole, so check line 31’s own times in the SL app, especially for an early flight. It runs partly in the street, so winter weather can slow it down.
The airport bus is paused
Vy flygbussarna, the airport-coach operator, has paused its Bromma–Cityterminalen route because of the low traffic. It points travelers to its Arlanda routes instead. Any guide or app that shows a Bromma airport coach is out of date.
Brommaplan is not Bromma Airport. Vy flygbussarna still runs an Arlanda coach to Brommaplan. That is a green-line metro station elsewhere in Bromma, not the airport terminal. Book it expecting the airport and you end up in the wrong place.
Taxis: no capped fare here
Taxis wait right outside the terminal. Only eco-taxis with an agreement with the airport may use the rank. Taxi stand officers can help you choose a company or call a wheelchair-accessible car.
What Bromma doesn’t have is Arlanda’s cap. At Arlanda, contracted taxis accept a maximum fare inside a marked zone. Swedavia’s Bromma page describes no such zone, and Swedish taxi prices are free, so the price is whatever you agree or whatever the meter says:
- You don’t have to take the first car in line. Compare the yellow jämförpris sticker, which shows what a 10 km, 15-minute trip costs in that car.
- Ask for a fixed price (fast pris). If you get one, it must be entered and visible in the meter before the trip starts.
- If the car’s jämförpris is above 710 kr (2026), the driver must give you a binding maximum price before you set off.
- Keep the meter receipt. You’ll need it for lost property or a complaint.
Pre-booked airport taxis (booked with your flight) are collected by reporting to the information desk; the car waits to the left outside the exit. Travelers with a Stockholm färdtjänst (mobility service) card book as usual. The full picture is in our guide to taxis in Sweden.
Inside the terminal: hours, security, ID
Opening hours. The terminal opens 75 minutes before the day’s first departure and closes after the last one. You can’t wait inside overnight for an early flight. Each airline sets its own check-in times.
Security is the classic kind. Liquids go in containers of up to 100 ml, inside one clear, resealable bag of up to 1 litre per person. Take liquids, laptops and tablets out at the checkpoint. Arlanda Terminal 5’s new scanners let you leave them in, but Bromma’s don’t. If you forget, your bag goes through twice. Liquid medicine and baby food are shown separately and don’t need to go in the 1-litre bag. Prohibited items are confiscated.
ID, not passport control. Every current route is domestic, so there is no border check. Swedavia says an ID card or driving licence is enough to prove identity on domestic flights, but airlines may ask for other ID. As a foreign visitor, carry the passport or national ID card you entered Sweden with.
Facilities are minimal. There is free wifi, a post box and one café, which opens around departures rather than all day. Eat before an early or late flight. Swedavia handles lost property inside the airport on weekdays; anything left on board goes to your airline. Golf bags and prams go to a staffed counter, not the self-service bag drop.
Special assistance is free and must be booked through your airline at least 48 hours before departure.
Picking someone up? Short-stay pick-up and drop-off parking is a minute from the terminal and is paid through parking apps. The Express car park is a two-minute walk.

FAQ
Is Bromma Airport closing?
Not yet, and no closure has been decided. The government inquiry that reported on 30 September 2026 (SOU 2026:60) proposed no closure. Instead it suggested reviewing Bromma’s future in 2033. Separately, the City of Stockholm has ended the land agreement, which now runs out on 31 December 2038. Any decision rests with the government.
Which airlines fly from Bromma?
Three small Swedish airlines, all on domestic routes: Brommaflyg to Visby on Gotland, Skåne Aviation to Malmö, and Västflyg to Trollhättan–Vänersborg and Växjö. Swedavia lists no scheduled international destinations. SAS, Norwegian and the former BRA network fly from Arlanda, so check the airport on your booking before you travel.
How do I get from Bromma Airport to central Stockholm?
Take Tvärbanan light-rail line 31 from the stop just left of the terminal exit to Alvik. There you change to the green metro line into the centre. An ordinary SL ticket covers the whole trip, with no airport fee. Taxis wait right outside the terminal. The airport bus to Cityterminalen is paused.
Is there an airport bus from Bromma?
Not at the moment. Vy flygbussarna has paused its Bromma–Cityterminalen route because of reduced air traffic and points travelers to its Arlanda routes. Its Arlanda–Brommaplan coach does not serve the airport: Brommaplan is a metro station elsewhere in Bromma. Use Tvärbanan line 31 or a taxi instead.
Is my SL ticket valid at Bromma Airport?
Yes. Bromma flygplats is an ordinary Tvärbanan stop inside SL’s single fare area, and SL’s tariff lists a station passage fee only at Arlanda. Tap a contactless card on the post at the stop before boarding, or activate an app ticket first. There are no gates, and you can’t buy a ticket on board.
How much is a taxi from Bromma to the city?
There is no fixed airport fare. Taxi prices in Sweden are free, and unlike at Arlanda, Swedavia’s Bromma page describes no capped zone fare. Compare the yellow jämförpris sticker on each car, ask whether the company offers a fixed price, and check it is entered in the meter before you set off. The city is about 7 km away.
When does Bromma’s terminal open?
The terminal opens 75 minutes before the day’s first departure and closes after the last one, so you can’t wait inside overnight. Check-in times are set by each airline. With only a handful of departures a day, the terminal café also opens around departures rather than all day.
Do I need a passport to fly from Bromma?
Every current Bromma route is domestic, so there is no passport control. Swedavia says an ordinary ID card or driving licence is enough on domestic flights, but airlines may ask for other ID. As a foreign visitor, carry the passport or national ID card you entered Sweden with, and check your airline’s rules.
