Nobody can tell you “the” ferry price for a motorhome to Sweden, because there isn’t one. What you can know is how every operator builds the price. Get the length right, pick the date well, and the quote stops being a surprise.

How the price is built
Every operator assembles the fare from the same parts. The vehicle is priced by its length, sometimes also by its height. Then come the people on board, a cabin where one is compulsory, and on some lines an environmental surcharge shown as a separate line. Finally, demand pricing moves the whole thing up or down with the date and time.

That environmental line is newer than many price guides online. Finnlines’ 2026 tariff states that EU ETS charges are not included in its fares, and TT-Line charges its environmental surcharge per person and route. Older guides that skip it understate the total.
Length bands by operator
Six metres is the first break everywhere we checked. Above it, operators either use fixed bands or add a surcharge on top of the car fare.

A band can be expensive. On Øresundslinjen’s 2026 list the fare over 6 m is exactly twice the fare under 6 m, in both seasons.
Measure with everything fitted. Stena Line counts the total length and height “including all conceivable accessories”, and Scandlines measures from front to rear including anything attached. A bike rack or towbar carrier can push a 5.9 m motorhome into the next band. Stena Line books vehicles longer than its stated classes as freight.
Height and what counts as a motorhome
Height is the second axis on some lines. Stena Line’s low car is up to 2 m high, its high car up to 3 m, both within 6 m; taller vehicles go in the motorhome class, up to 4 m high and 12 m long. Roof boxes and bicycles count. Finnlines’ environmental charge is lower for vehicles up to 6 m long and 2.1 m high.
Registration decides the class more often than weight. Scandlines charges a motorhome on the passenger-car tariff whatever it weighs, if the registration certificate says husbil (motorhome). Øresundslinjen treats a motorhome built for living in as a passenger vehicle whatever its weight or length. Stena Line requires the vehicle to be registered as a motorhome to use that class.
Caravans: measure the combination
Scandlines measures the car and caravan hitched together, and says plainly that adding the two brochure lengths is not enough. Other lines work differently: Øresundslinjen adds a trailer surcharge to the car fare, with trailer options up to 5 m and up to 10 m, and Destination Gotland sells a package for a car under 6 m plus a caravan. Season, weekday and booking early
Operators price by demand. Destination Gotland says its price follows how many people want to travel at a given time, and that late travellers pay more. So the same motorhome costs different amounts on different sailings.
- Summer is peak. Øresundslinjen’s 2026 peak ran 1 June – 31 August; Finnlines’ 2026 Travemünde–Malmö summer tariff runs 11 June – 6 September.
- Weekdays beat weekends. Finnlines prices weekday and weekend departures separately.
- Off-peak hours help. Scandlines has more of its cheapest Low Price tickets on weekdays, early mornings, late afternoons and nights.
- Early booking helps wherever fares follow demand, and especially for Gotland in summer.
The cheapest tickets are also the least flexible. Scandlines’ Low Price, and Destination Gotland’s Mini ticket and vehicle packages, cannot be refunded. Book those only when your date is fixed.
Return packages and the extras
Booking both directions together is often cheaper. TT-Line’s camper return package takes 20% off the ticket from Rostock and 15% from Travemünde, 30–40% off the length surcharge and 15% off the cabin. The package cannot be refunded, and each rebooking costs a fee. Finnlines takes 20% off the return leg when both are booked together.
Book online. TT-Line charges a handling fee on bookings not made online, and Destination Gotland adds a fee for phone bookings. Then compare routes on the whole trip, not the vehicle line: a compulsory cabin on a night crossing can outweigh a cheaper vehicle fare. FAQ
How much does a ferry to Sweden cost with a motorhome?
There is no fixed price. Each operator prices the vehicle by length, adds passengers, any compulsory cabin and surcharges, and moves the whole fare with demand. As one dated example, Destination Gotland’s online package for five people and a motorhome of 6–9 m cost 1,350 kr one way on selected departures in September 2026.
Does a motorhome cost more than a car on the ferry?
Usually only because it is longer or taller. Most motorhomes are over 6 m, the first price break everywhere checked. Scandlines and Øresundslinjen charge a registered motorhome on the passenger-car tariff whatever it weighs, and Stena Line has a separate motorhome class up to 12 m long and 4 m high.
