Every summer Tuesday, a crowd gathers on a hillside at Skansen to sing Swedish songs on live national TV. You can join them for the price of a museum ticket. Here is how to get in, when to arrive and what to bring.

When you need this

You are in Stockholm on a summer Tuesday and wonder whether you can be in the audience. You are choosing between a numbered seat, the free bleachers and standing room, or bringing children, a stroller or a wheelchair. Or you simply want to watch from home, abroad, and understand why Swedes care.

What Allsång på Skansen is

Allsång means community singing: everyone sings along. Allsång på Skansen is a live entertainment show from the Solliden stage (Sollidenscenen) at Skansen, the open-air museum on Djurgården. A host leads the audience through well-known Swedish songs between sets by guest artists, and the public broadcaster SVT shows it live.

The tradition is older than television. Sven Lilja started the sing-alongs at Skansen in 1935 and led them until 1950; in the early years up to 20,000 people could sing together at once, Skansen says. SVT’s first broadcast was on 3 August 1979, and it has been on every summer since 1990.

2014–2015Petra Marklund
2016–2022Sanna Nielsen

Many guides are out of date here. Pernilla Wahlgren has hosted since 2023, led the 2026 season for the fourth year in a row, and Skansen already names her for 2027.

Three ways in

This is the decision that matters. Only one of the three options costs more than an ordinary Skansen entry ticket.

OptionWhereWhat you needWhen to arrive
Numbered seatIn front of the stageTicketmaster ticket, Skansen entry includedStage area opens 18:30
Bleacher seat (gradängen)To the right of the stage, unnumberedOrdinary Skansen entry ticketSkansen recommends 10:00, when the park opens
Standing roomAround the stageOrdinary Skansen entry ticketAny time; always available

Two practical consequences. If you buy a numbered seat, do not buy a separate Skansen ticket as well. And if you want a free seat, plan the whole day at Skansen: the bleachers fill from the morning. On sing-along Tuesdays the park stays open to 20:00, so there is time for the museum and the zoo first.

A show day, hour by hour

TimeWhat happens
10:00Skansen opens; bleacher-seat hunters arrive
16:00Entry to the stage area for the rehearsal
17:00–18:00Dress rehearsal (genrep), Mondays and Tuesdays
18:30Entry to the stage area for the broadcast
20:00 to about 21:15Live broadcast on SVT1 and SVT Play

The rehearsal is a good tip if you want the songs and artists without the evening crowd: it runs on Monday too. The 2026 season ran for eight Tuesdays, from 23 June to the final on 11 August. The 2027 dates were not yet published in October 2026.

The opening song has traditionally been Stockholm i mitt hjärta. You do not need to know the words to enjoy it, but humming the choruses is half the fun.

Rules at the stage

Skansen sets these rules for the stage area:

  • No umbrellas during the show. Bring a raincoat; the show goes ahead outdoors.
  • Phone photos are fine for brief moments; professional camera gear needs press accreditation.
  • Any bag ban applies only inside the cordoned area at Sollidenplan and the Solliden stage, not to the rest of Skansen.
  • Food and drink are sold on site: there is a restaurant, kiosks, food trucks, water and toilets inside the stage area.

Children, strollers and wheelchairs

Children aged 0–15 enter Skansen free, with a free child ticket added when you buy an adult ticket. Numbered seats are different: every child needs a ticket for their own seat, except children under 4 who sit on a parent’s lap. Standing or the bleachers keeps a family outing at the price of adult entry.

Strollers must be parked outside the seating area or folded under your seat. Wheelchair places are near the stage. Some can be booked through Ticketmaster and the rest are first come, first served; a companion who does not use a wheelchair needs a ticket. Skansen says a wheelchair cannot take the place of an ordinary numbered seat, for safety reasons, so book or claim a wheelchair place instead.

Watching from home or abroad

The show is free to watch on SVT1 and SVT Play, live at 20:00. SVT Play marks most Allsång episodes as viewable worldwide, so you can usually follow it from abroad, though individual items can be limited to Sweden; check the label on each episode. Audio description is available. If you are curious about the other great Swedish TV singing ritual, see Melodifestivalen and Eurovision.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Buying a numbered seat and a separate Skansen ticket; the seat includes entry.
  • Arriving at 19:30 and expecting a bleacher seat.
  • Relying on an umbrella for rain protection.
  • Looking for it at the weekend; it is on Tuesdays.
  • Looking for it outside summer; the run is late June to mid-August.

FAQ

Do you need a ticket for Allsång på Skansen?

Only an ordinary Skansen entry ticket if you stand or take a free bleacher seat to the right of the stage; standing room is always available. Numbered seats in front of the stage are sold separately through Ticketmaster and include entry to Skansen. Children aged 0–15 enter Skansen free, but each child needs a numbered-seat ticket unless under 4 and on a lap.

When is Allsång på Skansen on?

On Tuesday evenings in summer. The 2026 season had eight shows, from 23 June to the final on 11 August, broadcast live on SVT1 and SVT Play from 20:00 to about 21:15. Dress rehearsals run 17:00 to 18:00 on Mondays and Tuesdays. The 2027 dates had not been published as of October 2026.

Who hosts Allsång på Skansen?

Pernilla Wahlgren has hosted since 2023 and led the 2026 season, her fourth in a row; Skansen says she will host again in 2027. Earlier hosts were Bosse Larsson (1979–1993), Lasse Berghagen (1994–2003), Anders Lundin (2004–2010), Måns Zelmerlöw (2011–2013), Petra Marklund (2014–2015) and Sanna Nielsen (2016–2022).

What time should I arrive at Allsång på Skansen?

For a free bleacher seat, Skansen recommends being there when it opens at 10:00. Entry to the stage area for the broadcast opens at 18:30, and for the rehearsal at 16:00. If you are happy to stand, late afternoon is fine, because standing room is always available on an ordinary Skansen ticket.

How old is Allsång på Skansen?

The sing-alongs began in 1935, when Sven Lilja started leading them at Skansen; he continued until 1950. SVT first broadcast the show on 3 August 1979 with Bosse Larsson as host, and has broadcast it every summer since 1990. That makes the tradition more than 90 years old.

Can I watch Allsång på Skansen from outside Sweden?

Usually yes. SVT Play marks most Allsång på Skansen episodes as viewable worldwide, and the show streams live there at the same time as the SVT1 broadcast, plus an extra set by a guest artist afterwards. Individual items can still be limited to Sweden, so check the label on each episode.

Can I bring a wheelchair or stroller?

Yes. Wheelchair places are near the stage; some can be booked through Ticketmaster and the rest are first come, first served, and a non-wheelchair companion needs a ticket. A wheelchair cannot take the place of an ordinary numbered seat. Strollers must be parked outside the seating area or folded under your seat.
